 Steam Siren Will Sound Box Remodelling the entire plan of the fire alarm system the new  fire alarm indicator system, completed a week ago was formally introduced last night at 10:21 o'clock.

 Henceforth the steam siren at the Winola plant at Seventh and Railroad street will signal the location of the fire instead of sounding only a general alarm. This resumption of signalling box numbers makes for greater efficiency in the fire alarm system. 

It was discontinued more than a year ago when the old sys• tem proved inadequate, The electric box signal indicator at the fire station is the same as in use in the largest cities and towns thruout the country where alarm stations' are in use. 

When an alarm of fire is sent from a box, the signal , sound the steam siren at the Winola plant is sounded, and the indicâtor there tells the workman the box number from which the call came Simultaneous with this the new indicator at the fire station makes a record of the box number. The record is made by an automatic electric punch through a strip of paper on the indicator. To avoid mistakes and for easy perception 1 by the drivers of the fire apparatus the in| dicator repeats the record three times. This strip is torn from the machine by the driver and a permanent record of the fire alarm box number is kept. The new system is recognized as the most rapid and efficient method of dispatching firemen to a conflagration that is known. 

The old plan of short blasts for all numbers up to ten and a long blast for each tenth unit with subsequent short blasts of other numbers following, will still remain in effect.  There are at present 27 fire alarm boxes
